Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, I earned my bachelor's degree in English Rhetoric from Texas A&M University in 2004. After graduation, I enlisted in the Navy where I served on 2 aircraft carriers— the USS John F. Kennedy & the USS Abraham Lincoln—and completed a tour of ground duty at Naval Station Bahrain and Jebel Ali. After an honorable discharge, I decided to return to school. I received my M.A. in Rhetoric and Composition from Texas State University in 2013, and my PhD in Technical Communication and Rhetoric from Texas Tech University in 2021.
My research interests include (new) materialist rhetorics, digital rhetorics, critical theory and pedagogy, and transfer theory. I have publications in Technical Communication Quarterly, Rhetoric Review, xChanges, the edited collection Toward More Sustainable Metaphors for Writing Program Administration, CCTE Studies, and, most recently, Rhetoric Society Quarterly. I'm also proud to be a managing editor at Xchanges journal, a publication that specializes in under/graduate research.
Beyond academia, I enjoy exploring the Coastal Bend with my beautiful wife and two children, playing piano, running, reading, and coaching youth soccer.
